Welcome to the Golden Festival

Golden Festival (formerly known as IDOP Albert-Eden) is a age-friendly celebration of older people in the community, with a programme of community led events.

In 2026 the Golden Festival will be held between Thursday 1 October to Friday 16th October.

Small grants were available to support community-created programming that celebrates older folk in the Albert-Eden Local Board area – through social connection, culture, knowledge and community.

Organiser Feedback

“The seniors have a lot of experience and wisdom to share. We must let them speak, share and appreciate their experience.”

“As a granddaughter I am also so thankful for communities like yours to provide such generosity and care to the elders to the community. So sending a thousand thank yous and appreciation to you and your team [Mt Albert Library] for keeping the human spirit and interactions alive in the community.”

“Too often people are siloed by their age or ability and we saw great value in mixing the groups to support each other and learn from each other.”

“One participant mentioned it was their first time attending such an event and expressed joy in connecting with others. Another suggested organising more sessions to continue learning and sharing life experiences.”
